Alma Barranco-Mendoza, PhD

Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer

 

Alma has over 25 years of professional experience in the scientific and technology sectors. In the past, Alma worked as Chief Information Officer of the Canadian Space Society and of Trinity Western University (TWU), where she was also a tenured professor in Computing and Information Systems and Biotechnology from 2004-2012. She also was founding Co-Director of the TWU Gender Studies Institute and founding member of the TWU Institute of Chronic Conditions and Ageing. 

She has received numerous academic and research awards for her work on cancer, diabetes, and autism risk assessment systems,  She has published over a dozen scientific publications and is a regular invited speaker in business, health, and technology conferences, seminars, and executive summits. Her accolades include the 2015 Frost & Sullivan CIO Impact International Award in Enterprise Social Networking and a finalist for the 2015 YWCA Women of Distinction Award in Technology, Science, and Research.

Alma

Alma holds a PhD in Computing Science focused on Artificial Intelligence and Health Informatics from Simon Fraser University, an MSc in Applications of Modelling in the Natural and Social Sciences and a B.Sc. Hons. in Computer Sc. and Mathematics from Trent University. In addition she has done numerous independent courses on Business, Leadership, Accounting, Operations, Project Management, and Sales.

Deryck
Deryck Persaud, PhD
Co-Founder and Chief Scientific Officer
 
Prior to founding Infogenetica, Deryck worked as a medical research scientist for BC Cancer Genome Science Centre and in the pharmaceutical industry doing research on stem cells, Cancer, Alzheimer's, and Age-Related Macular Degeneration. He is also an adjunct professor in Biotechnology at Trinity Western University.
 
Almost all of his 20 years of research experience have been focused on the role of fatty acids at the molecular level in cell membrane structure and biological pathways. The last 10 years he has focused on the importance of fatty acids in diet and their importance in relieving symptoms commonly associated with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Diabetes, Anxiety, Dementia, and Alzheimer's.
 
He has received numerous academic and research awards and has published over a dozen scientific publications including articles, reviews, conference proceedings, and papers in research journals. He also co-authored with Alma a chapter in the book Health in Rural Canada, (Ed. J. C. Kulig & A. Williams), UBC Press 2011.
 
Deryck has a PhD in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry from Simon Fraser University, a MSc in Food Science from the University of Guelph and a B.Sc.Hons. in Biochemistry from Trent University.
